Welcome to the Filipino Community of Sacramento & Vicinity website
Brief History
The Filipino Community of Sacramento and Vicinity was born in 1929. It was organized mainly as a social club that organized weekend dancing and monthly picnics. The association continued throughout the depression years and became a good source of solace and shelter to the thousands of Filipinos without jobs.
In 1945, the Filipino community held its first popularity beauty pageant. The elegant ceremony was held at the Moose Lodge on Stockton Blvd. Not long after this, a group of Filipino farmers decided to purchase a farmland at the corner of what is now Gerber Road and Elk Grove Florin. In 1950 they built a Filipino Center that was later sold to the American Legion Post #604 and was known as Magellan Hall for many years.
